Hello! My name is Nico Menefield, and I’m the creator behind Saturday Morning Photoshoot — a photography project that celebrates the art of imagination, nostalgia, and storytelling through the lens of toy photography.
What began as a creative experiment during the pandemic quickly turned into a passion. Inspired by a short documentary on Disney featuring toy photographer Mitchel Wu, I picked up my camera and started building miniature worlds of my own. Each shoot combines the technical precision of portrait and landscape photography with the playful creativity of collecting and posing action figures.
My work draws inspiration from the elegance of photographers like James Van Der Zee, whose portraits captured the spirit of his subjects with depth and emotion. In that same spirit, I aim to bring toys to life — creating cinematic moments that feel human, heartfelt, and full of story.
Every scene you see on Saturday Morning Photoshoot is built from the ground up — from custom dioramas and props to hand-painted backdrops and careful digital editing. The result is photography that blends fine art with pop culture, designed to make you believe in the unbelievable.
Beyond toy photography, I’m deeply inspired by portrait and landscape work — finding beauty in light, texture, and atmosphere, whether the subject is a person, a skyline, or a six-inch superhero. My goal is to create images that tap into that childlike sense of wonder we all remember — the same feeling we had during those cartoon-filled Saturday mornings.
Thank you for visiting Saturday Morning Photoshoot. I hope these images spark the same mix of nostalgia and imagination that inspires me every day.
Welcome to the weekend that never ends.
